What the Media doesn't want you to know about Police Shootings and Race

By Michael P. Tremoglie, Dec. 8, 2014

White officers were 87 percent of America’s 641,208 police and accounted for 82 percent of justifiable homicides by police in 1998. Black officers were 11 percent of police forces and accounted for 17 percent of all justifiable homicides.

According to the FBI, blacks were 43 percent of the known killers of law enforcement officers during the period from 2004-2013. But blacks were only about 13 percent of the U.S. population in 2013. You will not read this in the New York Times.

Here are several more facts that no other journalist has provided. I have stated these during interviews on the Bill Bennett show and the Seth Leibsohn radio shows:

Black officers, from 1980-2008, were involved in 13% of justifiable homicides by police, but 3% of those they killed were white compared to 11% who were black (the differences were due to rounding). You will not hear this from the Boston Globe.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, homicides by law enforcement personnel accounted for 61 percent of the arrest-related deaths for the period 2003-2009. Homicides by law enforcement accounted for 60.9 percent of whites and for 61.3 percent of blacks killed while being arrested for this period. This will not be published in U.S. News.

It was estimated, by the FBI, that during these same seven years state and local law enforcement officers made nearly 98 million arrests. This means that only 5 thousandths of one percent of arrests involved the killing of the person being arrested. Think about this - one out of every 20,000 arrests result in someone being killed. According to one source, there is a four times greater chance of being electrocuted than being killed while being arrested. Sean Hannity does not know this.

The most comprehensive study of homicides by police that I could locate was conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics of the Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, and published in March 2001. I wrote about this for an online magazine in 2002. You will not hear this from Byron York.

The report titled Policing and Homicide 1976 to 1998, listed the demographic information about citizens killed by police that were determined to be justifiable homicides and about police killed by citizens.

This monograph stated that black officers committed a statistically disproportionate amount of justifiable homicides by police in 1998. White officers were 87 percent of America’s 641,208 police and accounted for 82 percent of justifiable homicides by police in 1998. Black officers were 11 percent of police forces and accounted for 17 percent of all justifiable homicides.

Black officers also killed black felons more than white officers and vice-versa. The black-officer-kills-black-felon rate was 32 per 100,000 black officers in 1998, which is higher than the white-officer-kills-black-felon rate of 14 per 100,000 white officers. The white-officer-kills-white-felon rate was 28 per 100,000 white officers in 1998, which is higher than the black-officer-kills-white-felon rate of 11 per 100,000 black officers.

The study also stated that young black males murdered police officers at a rate almost 6 times that of young white males. Young black males made up about one percent of the U.S. population but 21 percent of felons who murdered a police officer from 1980 to 1998. Young white males were eight percent of the population but 20 percent of the murderers of law enforcement officers for the same time frame.

One other aspect of this is that most justifiable homicides by police are intraracial. According to FBI national data on justifiable homicides by police from 1976 to 1998. The officer’s race and the felon’s race were the same for about 65 percent of justifiable homicides by police. You will not be told this by Chris Wallace.

Finally, what is probably the most shocking fact is the attitude of the public. According to the University of Chicago's prestigious National Opinion Research Center, General Social Survey, 12.8 percent of Americans, in 2012, who said that they can imagine a situation where they would approve of a police officer striking a citizen - said that a policeman should not strike an adult male citizen who was attacking the policeman with his fists. What is even worse is that this figure has increased about four times what it was nearly forty years ago.

Simply put, about 12 of every 100 Americans, do not think police officers should defend themselves even when the officer is being attacked by someone using their fists. It is quite possible that the majority of these people are journalists.

Global Warming and Hurricanes Al Gore WRONG Again

Hard to believe, but it was a mere six years ago the Goracle descended from on high to warn mankind that global warming would inevitably lead to more hurricanes and stronger hurricanes.
He foresaw nothing but death and destruction and a little more jingly in his pocket.
CommonDreams.org quotes the Goracle back in 2005:
… the science is extremely clear now, that warmer oceans make the average hurricane stronger, not only makes the winds stronger, but dramatically increases the moisture from the oceans evaporating into the storm – thus magnifying its destructive power – makes the duration, as well as the intensity of the hurricane, stronger.
Last year we had a lot of hurricanes. Last year, Japan set an all-time record for typhoons: ten, the previous record was seven. Last year the science textbooks had to be re-written. They said, “It’s impossible to have a hurricane in the south Atlantic.” We had the first one last year, in Brazil. We had an all-time record last year for tornadoes in the United States, 1,717 – largely because hurricanes spawned tornadoes.
Don’t look now, Al, but Anthony Watts reports that your prediction was about 180 degrees off. Hurricane activity is now near an all-time low.
During the past 6-years since Hurricane Katrina, global tropical cyclone frequency and energy have decreased dramatically, and are currently at near-historical record lows. According to a new peer-reviewed research paper accepted to be published, only 69 tropical storms were observed globally during 2010, the fewest in almost 40-years of reliable records.
Furthermore, when each storm’s intensity and duration were taken into account, the total global tropical cyclone accumulated energy (ACE) was found to have fallen by half to the lowest level since 1977.
Paging Al Gore. Paging Al Gore. The 2011 hurricane season started June 1. Has anyone seen Al Gore lately?

Val Jarrett caught covering up for Holder lies on Fast and Furious

President Obama’s trusted senior advisor, Valerie Jarrett, was a key player in the effort to cover up that Attorney General Eric Holder lied to Congress about the Fast and Furious scandal, according to public records obtained by Judicial Watch.

The information is part of a Department of Justice (DOJ) “Vaughn index” detailing records about the gun-running operation known as Fast and Furious. JW had to sue the agency for the records after the Obama administration failed to provide them under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). A federal court ordered the DOJ to provide the records over the agency’s objections. Yesterday JW reported on the broad information in the records, including that Obama asserted executive privilege for Holder’s wife as part of the administration’s efforts to cover up the scandal.

Practically lost in the 1,000-plus pages of records is an index that shows Jarrett was brought in to manage the fact that Holder lied to Congress after the story about the disastrous gun-running operation broke in the media. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) ran the once-secret program that allowed guns from the U.S. to be smuggled into Mexico so they could eventually be traced to drug cartels. Instead, federal law enforcement officers lost track of hundreds of weapons which have been used in an unknown number of crimes, including the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Arizona.

The files received by JW include three electronic mails between Holder and Jarrett and one from former U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke to Jarrett. The e-mails with Holder are all from October 4, 2011, a significant date because, on the evening of October 3rd, Sheryl Attkisson (then at CBS news) released documents showing that Holder had been sent a briefing paper on Operation Fast and Furious on June 5, 2010. The paper was from the director of the National Drug Intelligence Center, Michael Walther.

This directly contradicted Holder’s May 3, 2011 testimony to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, during which he stated that he, “probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.” The October 4, 2011 date may also be significant because it came shortly after the August 30, 2011 resignation of U.S. Attorney for Arizona Dennis Burke and reassignment of acting ATF director Kenneth Melson to the position of “senior forensics advisor” at DOJ.

he description of one of the e-mails, written from Jarrett to Holder, reads, “re: personnel issues.” Another, also from Jarrett, reads, “outlining and discussing preferred course of action for future responses in light of recent development in congressional investigation.” Unfortunately, the index is vague and that’s all the information we have about them. Nevertheless, given the timing and subject of these e-mails, it seems clear that Jarrett quickly became a key player in the Fast and Furious cover-up in the immediate aftermath of the revelation that Holder had lied to Congress.

Looks like Kay Hagan is a Bigger Crook than we first thought

As has been previously reported, in 2009, after Democrat U.S. Senator Kay Hagan vigorously supported President Obama's $800 million-and-change stimulus package, a company co-owned by her husband, JDC Manufacturing, received $390,000 in federal grants and green energy tax credits. The Carolina Journal reports Tuesday that new documents prove "it's worse than we thought."

From a report by WRAL-TV news, we have confirmation that a cluster of businesses owned by Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan’s husband and other family members collected even more subsidies from taxpayers than initially reported. While Carolina Journal’s Don Carrington has highlighted a stimulus grant totaling $250,644 that was paid to JDC Manufacturing, a real estate business co-owned by Hagan’s husband, Chip, and his brothers John and David, WRAL confirmed that JDC received an additional $137,000 in energy tax credits from the project. (Some of the relevant documents are here.) …
Add a second federal renewable energy grant of $50,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to the ledger, and we learn that Hagan businesses soaked taxpayers for nearly $450,000 to pay for energy upgrades installed at JDC’s 300,000-square-foot building in Reidsville.
JDC, a company co-owned by the three Hagan brothers, applied for and received $250,644 in stimulus dollars to install more efficient lighting and furnaces and place solar panels at its building. JDC leases the building to Plastic Revolutions, a recycling company also owned by … Hagan family members. Once the project was completed, Plastic Revolutions said it expected to save $100,000 in energy costs annually. That’s a benefit it would not have received without the upgrades, which were made possible by federal taxpayers.
Moreover, JDC wound up with a more valuable asset: a modern, energy-efficient manufacturing facility that would bring a higher price if it sold, and a more inviting location for potential new tenants. And, of course, JDC received $137,000 in tax credits — again resulting from the stimulus grant.

There is also a report that Hagan recommended a judge for a federal appointment just a week after that same judge "ruled in favor of a company partially owned by Hagan's husband."

Global Warming is Just Not Delivering the Extreme Weather we were Promised.

In a Senate hearing, environmental scientist Roger Pielke of the University of Colorado said it’s “incorrect” to claim that global warming is spurring more extreme weather disasters.

“It is misleading and just plain incorrect to claim that disasters associated with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or droughts have increased on climate timescales either in the United States or globally,” Pielke said in his testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “It is further incorrect to associate the increasing costs of disasters with the emission of greenhouse gases.”
“Hurricanes have not increased in the U.S. in frequency, intensity or normalized damage since at least 1900,” Pielke added. “The same holds for tropical cyclones globally since at least 1970.”

Senate Democrats pointed to the increase in extreme weather events like hurricanes and tornadoes as evidence of global warming. California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer said that “climate change is real” and human activities were the cause, adding that people can “look out the window” to see evidence of it.

“Heat waves, droughts, wildfires and floods — all are now more frequent and intense,” said President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address.

Pielke, however, notes that U.S. floods have not increased in “frequency or intensity” since 1950 and economic losses from floods have dropped by 75 percent as a percentage of GDP since 1940. Tornado frequency, intensity, and normalized damages have also not increased since 1950, and Pielke even notes that there is some evidence that this has declined.

Pielke noted in his testimony that droughts have been shorter, less frequent, and have covered a smaller portion of the U.S over the last century. Globally, there has been very little change in the last 60 years, he said.

“The absolute costs of disasters will increase significantly in coming years due to greater wealth and populations in locations exposed to extremes,” Pielke added. “Consequent, disasters will continue to be an important focus of policy, irrespective of the exact future course of climate change.”

Senators sparred over predictions and claims made about man-made global warming. Democrats argued that the effects of global warming can be felt today and Republicans argued that evidence of human-induced warming is thin.

“I would note that it has not been titled ‘Global Warming: It’s Happening Now,’” said Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter. “Maybe that would have been too ironic given the Earth’s stagnant temperature for the past 15 years, a fact that is currently confounding climate scientists and modeling experts who predicted otherwise.”

Sheila Jackson Lee Caught Lying Again

While appearing on MSNBC's NewsNation, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, the Texas Democrat once dubbed the "Congressional boss from hell," falsely claimed Republicans cut funds for the NIH and the CDC, according to a video posted to Grabien on. As was reported, House Republicans actually gave the agency more money than Obama requested earlier this year, but Jackson Lee and her fellow Democrats have apparently decided not to tell Americans the truth about the issue.

"I make the argument that the Centers for Disease Control, that they are the vital organ of this health infrastructure, and doctor — the head of it, Dr. Frieden has been a very good leader," she said. "But what I am concerned about and really frustrated is that we didn’t take this initial encounter in Dallas at the level that it should have been."

"The county officials have been excellent, but the infrastructure of the Texas Presbyterian and understanding what was happening to Mr. Duncan, did not translate to those front liners, those nurses and techs and others, and that is unfair to them," she added. "So I’m very frustrated with that. I will also say that CDC suffers from the continued gridlock in Washington and Republicans not funding fully. Even though the fight against Ebola is bipartisan, CDC has suffered in its funding along with NIH. If we ever get called back to Washington early that’s what we should be called back for, and I would certainly join to do that. We need those resources."

In short, Jackson Lee echoed the false claim made by an offensive Democratic Party ad intended to stoke hate and fear against Republicans. The claim made by the ad is so outrageous the Washington Post's fact checker gave it "four Pinocchos," the lowest rating possible.

"On many levels," Glenn Kessler said, the line of attack being used by Democrats "is absurd." Kessler noted that Congress gave the agency more than Obama requested, but some was taken back by sequestration -- an idea that came out of the Obama White House. Additionally, there was never a vote specifically aimed at Ebola research as the ad suggests. In short, the ad is patently false. And so is the claim by Democrats like Sheila Jackson Lee.

NC Senator Kay Hagen Guilty of Cover-Up

After the Hagan campaign admitted that Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) missed a classified hearing on "worldwide threats" to U.S. national security for a New York City fundraiser, North Carolina Republicans are calling the incumbent “guilty of a taxpayer-funded cover-up.”

Hagan is locked in a tight race for reelection against Republican state House Speaker Thom Tillis, who has attacked her in recent days for missing more than 50 percent of Senate Armed Services Committee hearings in the wake of the rising threat of ISIS.

Hagan’s campaign has defended her attendance record by saying she skipped hearings due to hearings or meeting with constituents, by refusing to answer questions, and by attacking Tillis’ own attendance in the state legislature.

However, the Hagan campaign revealed to the Associated Press that she missed a Feb. 27 Armed Services Committee classified hearing on “current and future worldwide threats” to national security in order to attend a New York City cocktail fundraiser reception.

The fact that Hagan failed to directly admit that she attended a fundraiser instead of a classified hearing, and her whereabouts during the other 26 Armed Services Committee hearings she failed to attend, amounts to a cover-up paid for by the taxpayers, according to the North Carolina Republican Party.

“Senator Hagan stonewalled the media for weeks about skipping a crucial classified hearing to drink cocktails at a posh Park Avenue fundraiser for her reelection campaign. Her salary is paid by the taxpayers, and so is her staff’s,” William Allison, the North Carolina GOP spokesman, said Thursday. “The people of North Carolina deserved the truth all along. Instead, they got deceptions and innuendos that add up to a taxpayer-funded cover-up.”

The Tillis campaign piled on as well for campaign dishonesty.

“Kay Hagan’s web of falsehoods has been exposed, and it has revealed a continued pattern of deceiving North Carolinians, whether it was falsely telling families they could keep their health care plans if they liked them, or misleading voters about her indefensible record of failing to prioritize our national security,” Tillis spokeswoman Meghan Burris said.

RINOs Boehner and Cantor Selling Us Out to Lobbyists

Congressional staffers voted former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) the two best friends of lobbyists in this Congress.

In Washingtonian's biennial "best and worst" of Congress survey the magazine sends to congressional staffers, Cantor and Boehner placed first and second, respectively, in the "lobbyists' best friend" category.

The magazine sent the survey to staffers "soon after Eric Cantor’s shocking primary defeat" to Dave Brat. Voters ousted Cantor in a June primary because of Cantor's ties to crony capitalism and embrace of amnesty legislation favored by the bipartisan political elite. Cantor resigned soon after and took a job for a Wall Street firm.

Boehner has always been friendly with the lobbying community. According to Government Accountability Institute President and Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer's Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets, Boehner is even known for collecting "tollbooth fees" before votes from industry executives.

“You pay money at a tollbooth in order to use a road or bridge,” Schweizer writes in his book. “The methodology in Washington is similar: if someone wants a bill passed, charge them money to allow the bill to move down the legislative highway.”

Boehner and GOP leaders, as do Democrats, also demand secret fees to land top committee spots, as Schweizer's book reported.

Expert says public are growing sceptical of climate change

It's been over 18 years since the Earth's temperature last rose - something that Dr Benny Peiser, from the Global Warming Policy Forum, says experts are struggling to understand.
He explains that we are now in the midst of a "crisis of credibility" because the global warming - and accompanied 'Doomsday' effects - that we were once warned about has not happened.
Scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) once predicted a temperature rise of 0.2 degrees per decade - but are now baffled by the fact our planet's temperature has not increased for almost two decades.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Dr Peiser said: "What has happened is that the public has become more sceptical because they were told we are facing Doomsday, and suddenly they realise ‘Where is the warming that we were promised?’"
"They say we can predict the climate and the reality is that they can’t."
Because of this so-called "global warming hiatus", Dr Peiser says climate change is not as pressing of an issue as it once was, a fact that should be embraced by the scientific community.
"Climate change used to be a top priority but it has dropped quite significantly - other issues are more important for international meetings," he said.
"The reality is that they are quite relieved in a way, and we should all be relieved that it isn’t such a big problem at present.
"We might have much more time than many people once told us."
However, the reason behind the current pause in rising temperatures remains a mystery, and there are said to be more than 30 theories attempting to decipher what caused this stability.
Some scientists suggest the heat may have gone into the ocean, but Dr Peiser remains unconvinced by this theory.
"Something is clearly balancing out the warming effect of the CO2 [carbon dioxide]," he explained.
"It might be natural factors, it might be the ocean, no one knows for sure.
"It [the warming] could start anytime - and that is an indication that we don’t fully understand the climate.
"That’s a reality that most climate scientists are reluctant to admit."

See who the real RINOs are at Conservative Review

Conservatives have reached the point where, on the one hand, almost every Republican politician must run as a conservative and adopt our messaging and policies in order to succeed. But at the same time, many of these elected officials work on initiatives in Washington that cannot be defined as conservative. Most politicians are working to promote big government policies but shroud their records in the cloak of confusion and ambivalence.

Conservative Review® is designed to pull back the curtain on Washington and provide the conservative grassroots with the tools to track members of Congress and hold them accountable. Because nearly every Republican and many red state Democrats run on conservative talking points, we invite you to go a step further and after taking a deeper look at the scorecard, ask yourself: “Does their record of service in Washington reflect the principles that make America great – Are they truly conservative?” Those are the questions we seek to answer.

ObamaCare Website is WAY WAY Over Budget

New data compiled by Bloomberg Government reveal that Obamacare has already cost taxpayers $73 billion, including $2.1 billion on its busted Obamacare website--a figure more than double what the Obama administration originally claimed.

As Bloomberg notes, its "analysis shows that costs for both healthcare.gov and the broader reform effort are far greater than anything publicly discussed" and are "substantially greater than what the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) initially estimated health reform would cost by this point."

The $73 billion figure, however, is a drop in the bucket compared to Obamacare's 10-year spending total. According to the Senate GOP Budget Committee, Obamacare will costs U.S. taxpayers $2.6 trillion over the decade.
Nationally, Obamacare remains unpopular. The RealClearPolitics average of polls finds that just 41% of Americans support Obama's signature legislative achievement.

The Inconvenient Truth of the Global Warming Hoax

Both the Earth and the Sun pass through natural cycles. The Sun is currently in a cycle of lower radiation as signaled by fewer sunspots representing magnetic storms.

There is currently no global warming. The Earth has been in a cooling cycle for 19 years. No child who has passed through K-12 classes in school has experienced a single day of “global warming.”

Not one computer model that predicted increased warming has been accurate.

Carbon dioxide, (CO2) blamed for global warming, is not a “pollutant” despite a Supreme Court decision stating this. Our exhaled breath contains about 4% of CO2.

How can carbon dioxide be called a “pollutant” when it is directly responsible for the growth of all vegetation on the planet? Without CO2 there would not be a single blade of grass or a redwood tree. Or the animal life that depends on vegetation; wheat and rice, for example, as food.

There is zero evidence that carbon dioxide generated by human activities is causing catastrophic climate change. Climate is measured in centuries or shorter periods of many decades in order to determine its cycles. The weather is what is occurring where you reside and it changes every day.

At 78% nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the Earth’s atmosphere. It is an essential building block of amino acids present in all proteins. It is a very stable, unreactive gas. Oxygen is the second most abundant gas-of-life in the atmosphere at 21%. Water vapor is the third most abundant gas-of-life in the atmosphere; it varies up to 5%, It reduces incoming solar radiation by day and reduces surface cooling at night. Carbon dioxide is the least abundant gas in the atmosphere at 0.04%.

The assertion that 97% of scientists believe that climate change is man-made and an urgent problem is a fiction. In May Joseph Bast, president of The Heartland Institute, cited the Zimmerman/Doran survey in which, out of 3,146 respondents, only 79 listed climate science as an area of expertise. Hardly 97%. “Surveys of meteorologists repeatedly find a majority oppose the alleged consensus,” noted Bast.

In February, Patrick Moore, a Canadian ecologist, a co-founder of Greenpeace, a militant environmental group which he left in 1986, told members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee “There is no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide are the dominant cause of the minor warming of the Earth’s atmosphere over the past 100 years.”

Not only is the Earth not warming, but Heartland Institute analyst, Peter Ferrara, notes that “If you look at the record of global temperature data, you will find that the late 20th Century period of global warming actually lasted about 20 years, from the late 1970s to the late 1990s. Before that, the globe was dominated by about 30 years of global cooling, giving rise in the 1970s to media discussions of the return of the Little Ice Age (circa 1450 to 1850), or worse.”

The cooling of the Earth has led to a dramatic increase in both Arctic and Antarctic ice, up 50% since 2012.

One result of the false claims about carbon dioxide has been the Obama administration’s policies such as the refusal to permit the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline to import oil from Canada to U.S. refineries. The Environmental Protection Agency’s absurd restrictions on CO2 emissions have forced the closure of many coal-fired plants that are needed to provide low cost electrical energy. The administration has long wanted to impose a “carbon tax” on all energy use in America, a punishing and needless expense.

The Obama administration’s climate policies are entirely political in nature. It has announced that the EPA’s process of setting new rules affecting power plants will be delayed until after the November 4 midterm elections. It is extending the public comment period until December 1. The growing discontent over similar climate and environmental policies was evident when leaders of the European Union announced it was moving away from green policies that had driven up the cost of electricity across the continent.

In a world threatened by the rise of radical Islamism, by the outbreak of diseases like Ebola, and other actual problems to be addressed, the notion that thousands would march in the belief that they and the entire rest of the Earth’s population have any effect on the climate is appalling.

What is perhaps most sad and most reprehensible are the host of world leaders who continue to maintain the lie of global warming or the misrepresentation of climate change to impose a tax on an essential element of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Why do we send "Aid" to these people?

THIS SHIRT IS PRODUCED IN LARGE QUANTITIES AND SOLD ON THE STREETS OF MANY MUSLIMS COUNTRIES, MIDDLE EAST, INDONESIA, PAKISTAN AND INDIA, WITHOUT ANY LOCAL OR INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS MAKING ANY NOISE.

THEY MAKE FASHION CREATIONS AND THE MUSLIMS WEAR THEM WITH PRIDE AND REMEMBER THE TWIN TOWERS ATTACK IN WHICH MORE THAN 2,000 PEOPLE DIED.

RACISM AND OFFENSES TO OTHER RACES AND BELIEFS DO NOT APPLY TO MUSLIMS ... WHY? ...

THEY THEN DEMAND HUMANITARIAN AID AT THE SMALLEST CHANCE, AND WE'RE ALWAYS READY TO OFFER THEM ASSISTANCE, HELPING THEM TO EVEN OPEN NEW MOSQUES.

KEEP ON LIKE THIS, IN A FEW YEARS THEY WILL MEET THEIR OBJECTIVE: THE DESTRUCTION / CONQUEST OF THE WEST.

22 Trillion Dollars Spent and there is still a War On Poverty

Since its beginning, U.S. taxpayers have spent $22 trillion on Johnson’s War on Poverty (in constant 2012 dollars). Adjusting for inflation, that’s three times more than was spent on all military wars since the American Revolution.

The federal government currently runs more than 80 means-tested welfare programs. These programs provide cash, food, housing and medical care to low-income Americans. Federal and state spending on these programs last year was $943 billion. (These figures do not include Social Security, Medicare, or Unemployment Insurance.)

Over 100 million people, about one third of the U.S. population, received aid from at least one welfare program at an average cost of $9,000 per recipient in 2013. If converted into cash, current means-tested spending is five times the amount needed to eliminate all poverty in the U.S.

But today the Census will almost certainly proclaim that around 14 percent of Americans are still poor. The present poverty rate is almost exactly the same as it was in 1967 a few years after the War on Poverty started. Census data actually shows that poverty has gotten worse over the last 40 years.

How is this possible? How can the taxpayers spend $22 trillion on welfare while poverty gets worse?

The answer is it isn’t possible.  Census counts a family as poor if its income falls below specified thresholds. But in counting family “income,” Census ignores nearly the entire $943 billion welfare state.

For most Americans, the word “poverty” means significant material deprivation, an inability to provide a family with adequate nutritious food, reasonable shelter and clothing. But only a small portion of the more than 40 million people labelled as poor by Census fit that description.

The media frequently associate the idea of poverty with being homeless. But less than two percent of the poor are homeless.  Only one in ten live in mobile homes. The typical house or apartment of the poor is in good repair and uncrowded; it is actually larger than the average dwelling of non-poor French, Germans or English.

The Libtards are turning on the Queen of Libtards

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is in a behind-the-scenes struggle with the White House, congressional Democrats and Washington insiders who have lost confidence in her as both a unifying leader and reliable party spokesperson at a time when they need her most.

Long-simmering doubts about her have reached a peak after two recent public flubs: criticizing the White House’s handling of the border crisis and comparing the tea party to wife beaters.

The perception of critics is that Wasserman Schultz spends more energy tending to her own political ambitions than helping Democrats win. This includes using meetings with DNC donors to solicit contributions for her own PAC and campaign committee, traveling to uncompetitive districts to court House colleagues for her potential leadership bid and having DNC-paid staff focus on her personal political agenda.

She’s become a liability to the DNC, and even to her own prospects, critics say.

“I guess the best way to describe it is, it’s not that she’s losing a duel anywhere, it’s that she seems to keep shooting herself in the foot before she even gets the gun out of the holster,” said John Morgan, a major donor in Wasserman Schultz’s home state of Florida.

The stakes are high. Wasserman Schultz is a high-profile national figure who helped raise millions of dollars and served as a Democratic messenger to female voters during a presidential election in which Obama needed to exploit the gender gap to win, but November’s already difficult midterms are looming.

One example that sources point to as particularly troubling: Wasserman Schultz repeatedly trying to get the DNC to cover the costs of her wardrobe.

In 2012, Wasserman Schultz attempted to get the DNC to pay for her clothing at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, multiple sources say, but was blocked by staff in the committee’s Capitol Hill headquarters and at President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign headquarters in Chicago.

She asked again around Obama’s inauguration in 2013, pushing so hard that Obama senior adviser — and one-time Wasserman Schultz booster — Valerie Jarrett had to call her directly to get her to stop. (Jarrett said she does not recall that conversation.) One more time, according to independent sources with direct knowledge of the conversations, she tried again, asking for the DNC to buy clothing for the 2013 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Wasserman Schultz denies that she ever tried to get the DNC to pick up her clothing tab. “I think that would be a totally inappropriate use of DNC funds,” she said in a statement. “I never asked someone to do that for me, I would hope that no one would seek that on my behalf, and I’m not aware that anyone did.”

What was really going on in Benghazi?

The U.S. special mission in Benghazi and the nearby CIA annex were utilized in part to coordinate arms shipments to the jihadist rebels fighting the Syrian regime, with Ambassador Christopher Stevens playing a central role, documents an explosive new book.

The activities, which included a separate, unprecedented multi-million-dollar weapons collection effort from Libyan militias who did not want to give up their weapons, may have prompted the Sept. 11, 2012, attack, charges the new book. The findings and more are revealed in the new work by radio host and WND reporter Aaron Klein, “The REAL Benghazi Story: What the White House and Hillary Don’t Want You to Know.” Klein asserts the arms-to-rebels scheme that ran through Benghazi “might amount to the Fast and Furious of the Middle East, the Iran-Contra of the Obama administration.”

A key issue is that until the end of April 2013, the White House had repeatedly denied it was involved in helping to arm the Syrian rebels. However, “The REAL Benghazi Story” cites evidence of arms transfers throughout the summer of 2012, escalating with a major shipment from Libya to Turkey just days prior to the Sept. 11 attack.

The book finds members of the 17th of February Martyrs Brigade, a militia linked to the Ansar al-Sharia terrorist organization, may have been used as cut outs to aid in the weapons transfers to Syrian rebels. Perplexingly, armed members of the Martyrs Brigade were hired by the State Department to provide internal “security” at the U.S. special mission.

Stevens an ‘arms dealer’?

According to information cited by Klein, Stevens served less as a diplomat and more as an arms dealer and intelligence coordinator for assistance to the so-called Arab Spring, with particular emphasis on the Syrian rebels. As was widely reported, Stevens originally arrived in Libya during the revolution aboard a Greek cargo ship carrying equipment and vehicles. His original task in Libya was to serve as the main interlocutor between the Obama administration and the rebels based in Benghazi. Stevens never abandoned that role, even after becoming ambassador, according to Klein.

What if our Next President Repeals ALL of Obama's Executive Orders?

In front of a boisterous pub crowd of young voters here, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) ripped into President Obama over executive overreach and even vowed to repeal “all previous executive orders” in one of his first acts as president, should he run.

Paul’s comments came to the New Hampshire chapter of Generation Opportunity, a national grassroots conservative group with a libertarian appeal with thousands of young liberty-minded activists nationwide engaged through it.
Paul focused much of his remarks on executive overreach by President Barack Obama, saving some of his most interesting points for a question-and-answer session at the end.
“There’s a rumor going around you might run for president in a couple years,” a young man shouted as Paul took questions from the audience for several minutes after a 15-plus-minute speech.
“Man, who started that?” Paul joked with the man, who was in his mid-20s.

“I know, it’s crazy,” the young man followed up. “You spoke for a bit on the executive orders tonight. If you were to receive the presidency would you repeal previous executive orders and restrain the power of the presidency?”
“I think the first executive order that I would issue would be to repeal all previous executive orders,” Paul replied to resounding cheers through the Manchester pub, named for the beer bearing the namesakes of American revolutionary Sam Adams. “Democracy is messy, but you have to build consensus to pass things. But it’s also in some ways good, because a lot of laws take away your freedom. So it should be hard to pass a law. And it, frankly, when you do it the proper way, is. We’ve done way too many things [the wrong way]: Signing statements, altering legislation by the president, are wrong and unconstitutional and shouldn’t happen. Executive orders shouldn’t either.”
“Absolutely,” the man shouted back at Paul. “You should run.”
